Shuttles and Rentals for Multi-Day River & Lake Trips |

River shuttles and canoe/kayak rentals are available from Sunrise Canoe and Kayak for the rivers, lakes, and streams of eastern Maine. Among the waters we regularly outfit are: Machias river (incl. the West Branch, Mopang, Old, and New streams and the Machias Lakes), East Machias river, St. Croix River, West Grand Lakes (incl. Sysladobsis, Pocumcus, Junior, Scraggly lakes), Chiputneticook Lakes (incl. East Grand and Spednic), Narraguagus river, Union river, Dennys river, and Rocky lake.
Please keep in mind that only one of these rivers is reliably runnable throughout summer and into the fall- the St. Croix. All other rivers and streams are generally runnable only in the spring (late April-May) with exceptions being the Machias and East Machias rivers where the watersheds are large enough to support canoeable water levels into mid June during most years. We are a complete outfitter, meaning you are welcome to arrive at Bangor International Airport with your river clothes and favorite paddle where we will meet you then shuttle you to the river with your entire trip already packed and ready to go. You are also welcome to pick just the services you need for your trip. As always, information is free, good information is free with rentals. River shuttles are conducted in 15 or 12 passenger vans, usually with rear seats removed for gear storage. Shuttle vans are equipped with canoe/luggage racks and 8-10 berth canoe trailers (also with room for gear) if necessary. Support trucks are available as well. Canoe rentals are 16' and 17' Old Town Discoveries and 16' Mad River Explorers suitable for extended river and lake trips. We replace our rental fleet each year, ensuring that the equipment you rent from us will be in excellent shape. Provisioning and food prep is contingent upon your approval of a menu. We will ask you a few questions in order to make sure that the food you like is packed for your trip, but basically we are able to pack any food for your trip which is available in Machias that you are willing to pay for and carry down the river. Your food will be packed and ready to go in dry boxes and coolers which will be meticulously labeled with the contents for your convenience. Generally, we only put in one party per day at any one put-in. Occasionally, situations beyond our control force us to do otherwise. Please understand this does not happen often, but it is a possibility. Mid-trip provision drops may be arranged should you plan a particularly long trip or have a large number of participants or simply wish for the convenience of a mid-tip check in. Although Sunrise Canoe and Kayak is not responsible for what happens on your trip, if your party rents canoes from us or hires a basic river shuttle (as opposed to a via) we will be expecting you at a certain date, time, and place. To many of our clients this added measure of safety is a comforting benefit while on river. |
