Bold Coast Kayak Trips
As sea kayaking on the Maine coast has continued to grow in popularity, so has the reputation surrounding Maine's easternmost kayaking destination, the Bold Coast of Washington county. Among the unique coastal highlights found here are the Great Wass Island nature preserve in the Jonesport archipelago and the native american petroglyphs found on the islands of Machias Bay.
Still, much of eastern Maine's kayaking reputation stems from coastal Washington county's dynamic paddling conditions. Powerful currents associated with Maine's largest tides and abundant fog generated by the cold waters of the Labrador current combined with the fact that the Bold Coast lies beyond Maine's mainstream travel destinations give these waters an intriguing yet intimidating feel even to experienced kayakers.
Reputation aside, coastal Washington county has a lot to offer the adventurous spirit. A knowledgeably led group can find plenty of opportunities for beginning and experienced paddlers alike to thoroughly enjoy this area while retaining the option of seeking out challenging conditions.
For over fifteen years Sunrise Canoe and Kayak has been Maine's only outfitter to lead a range of trips throughout the season on the Washington county coast.
Depending on paddling conditions, Bold Coast full day trips may explore the Great Wass archipelago, Machias Bay, or the waters near Roque Bluffs State Park.
Bold Coast full day trips cost $110 per person and require a party of at least two for reservations. Trips are conducted in our tandem sea kayaks.
